Specializing in Breeding Topaz Cats in the USA

We are a small USDA licensed and TICA registered cattery located near Toledo, OH. We established in May 2022 and currently only have a few cats in our breeding program. Our goal is to develop the Topaz breed here in the USA, which to our knowledge, we are the only breeder in the country working with this breed. Our breeding stock is FeLV/FIV negative and genetically health tested through Optimal Selection.

What is the Topaz Breed?

Topaz is a natural cat breed that originates from Ukraine and was previously being developed there by a few breeders. At this time (April 2026), we are unaware of any other breeders actively working on further development of this breed besides us. One of the defining characteristics of this breed is that they have a dominant blue eye (DBE) gene that can cause blue eyes and bicolor eyes to express on any color of cat, where as blue eyes are typically only seen in a select few breeds and colors of cats. This gene is different from other DBE genes that have been bred in the past and is not linked to any physical deformities or other negative mutations. While there is a preliminary Ukraine Topaz breed standard, we here at Pharus Lux are going in a different direction with our development of the “American” Topaz breed. We feel it is important to still utilize Topaz as the breed name so that we can maintain a connection with our project’s origins. As time progresses and we are producing kittens, we will continue to work towards our preliminary goals and develop a breeding standard through cat breeding organizations such as TICA.
